Our Name
Our founder Julie Wise had all sorts of possible business names and logos. However, with a surname of Wise, friends and colleagues were quick to think of wisdom and the logo of the Owl.
We researched the Owl and found that contrary to popular myths the owl has been a honoured creature in many cultures for many centuries. The Owl was sacred to the Greek goddess of learning, Athena and is depicted on some Greco-Roman currency as a symbol of status, intelligence and of course, wealth. Whilst in ancient Egyptian, Celtic, and Hindu cultures the owl was actually honored as the keeper of spirits who had passed from one plane to another and Native Americans associate the owl with wisdom, foresight, and keeper of sacred knowledge.
As business owners we all have to understand how our companies actually work, anticipate the future and build our companies to be flexible, innovative and constantly evolving to meet the new market places. So to us there is there a natural link between business’ owners to the Owl’s key characteristics – foretelling of change, legendary vision and knowledge.
The fact that at the time, Julie’s hair was silver (who knows what color it is today!) it seems that the name – The SilverOwl – chose us.
